Will a Design Degree really help my career?
I received an email from a fellow designer today who has spent the last two years reading art school course catalogs and ordering brochures about online design degrees. Each semester she completes a registration form to start her continuing education, but when it comes time to finally write the check for tuituion, she wonders if the investment will really help her career.
She's been a graphic designer for 5 years and worked her way up to an Art Director role, so she knows that she's put the time in and is becoming an expert in her industry. But when she watches the grace and speed of her younger employees as they fly through the task of designing rich media ads in Flash and whipping out logo samples in the latest version of Illustrator, she starts to feel a little 'old school'.
It's the pricetag of the course she says... "can't I just train myself or read a book?"
We've all been down that road. Learning the ins and outs of Illustrator and Flash type programs just can't be done by reading a book.
Take a course... get inspired! Earn a masters in design... who knows where you'll soar!
